“Push a button, Get a ride”
Uber has forever changed the way people move, and leading Strategic Partnerships in Malaysia was truly a ride of a lifetime. I had the privilege of spearheading local deals with major telcos, banks, government agencies and others, while also supporting the rollout of global and regional collaborations like Uber x Canon.
Across all of my work at Uber, I managed the end-to-end process of Partnership building-from inception to launch.
initiative #1
Working with Telcos to unlock millions of customers
One of the partnerships I led was with Celcom, one of Malaysia’s largest telecommunications provider. With millions of customers, this collaboration allowed us to leverage their network to rapidly expand Uber’s footprint across the country.
Together, we launched multiple projects that covered discounted airport rides, zero-rated data plans for drivers, and free rides for Celcom customers. Plus, Celcom invested in prime OOH placements at major airports nationwide, ensuring Uber was top of mind for travelers.
Zero-rating the Uber app for drivers meant that they could earn with minimal data charges, thus increasing their take-home earnings with every ride on the platform.
initiative #2
Strengthening Uber’s Role in Malaysia’s Economy
Another project I spearheaded was with the Malaysian government’s Employees Provident Fund. As more Malaysians turned to Uber as their primary source of income, it became clear that supporting drivers’ long-term financial security was essential.
Through this partnership, we educated drivers about saving for retirement and encouraged them to join the SP1M program. It wasn’t just about providing a service; it was about embedding Uber into Malaysia’s broader economic fabric and ensuring drivers had access to resources that supported their well-being.
